Lazaro P. Fields is a trial lawyer who represents businesses and individuals involved in government investigations, criminal litigation, and complex commercial litigation. Lazaro was a member of the legal team that obtained dismissal of the “Mar-a-Lago documents” indictment against President Donald J. Trump, and he also served as trial counsel to the Trump Organization in the civil fraud lawsuit brought by the New York Attorney General, during which his cross-examination of a key government witness was lauded as a Perry Mason moment by President Trump.
Previously, Lazaro served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, where he prosecuted cases involving money laundering, corruption, fraud, violent crimes, and drug trafficking. Committed to vindicating the rights of victims, he was recognized by the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General for his successful prosecutions of correctional officers for sexually abusing inmates. His cases have been featured in national and international media outlets, including Fox News, The New York Times, NBC News, New York Post, Business Insider, The Washington Post, Newsweek, and The Guardian.
Following law school, he served as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Federico A. Moreno of the Southern District of Florida. During law school, he was appointed by then-Governor Rick Scott to Class XI of the Florida Gubernatorial Fellows and worked for the Judiciary Committee of the Florida House of Representatives.
In 2020, he was appointed by the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives to the Citizens Property Insurance Corporation Board of Governors, where he oversaw Florida’s multibillion-dollar property insurer of last resort. He is a member of the Belen Jesuit Alumni Association, the Federalist Society, and has served on the Florida State University College of Law Alumni Association Board of Directors.
