A class-action suit refers to a type of lawsuit where an individual or a small group of individuals are plaintiffs on behalf of a much larger group of people who are all similarly situated. The named plaintiffs in the lawsuit are known as the class representatives.  Consumer class-action cases allow one person to challenge a business practice which they believe is illegal, on behalf of a group of consumers who are in a similar circumstance.
